Electrolysis

At Oasis Beauty we want our clients to enjoy smooth, bare skin. Electrolysis hair removal has been around for over 150 years. With technology advancements and the consistency of providing clients with a permanent hair removal solution. This tried-and-true process has given clients a way to remove unwanted hair from their self-care routine. Electrolysis has helped countless women live care-free and secured the number one spot for hair removal. At Oasis Beauty, our electrologist team maintains the highest hair removal technology and stays up to date on the latest research on hair removal. We pride ourselves in being the go-to spa for hair removal.

Electrolysis works by inserting a tiny probe into each hair follicle. The probe is smaller than the hair follicle. The probe destroys the hair bulb, papilla and the blood supply to the hair. This causes permanent hair loss. The tiny probe eliminates the growth center of the hair with a small output of electrical energy. This leaves our clients with smooth, hair free skin.

We’ve broken up our electrolysis treatment areas to better target unwanted hair. These treatment areas are the most common areas that our clients request. What causes unwanted hair growth?

Excess facial or body hair is often a symptom of an underlying medical problem.Hirsutism is a condition in women that results in excessive growth of dark or coarse hair in a male-like pattern — face, chest and back. With hirsutism, extra hair growth often arises from excess male hormones (androgens), primarily testosterone.

Other Causes of hirsutism may be cause by:

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This condition, which often begins with puberty, causes an imbalance of sex hormones. Over years, PCOS may slowly result in excess hair growth, irregular periods, obesity, infertility and sometimes multiple cysts on the ovaries.

Cushing syndrome. This occurs when your body is exposed to high levels of the hormone cortisol. It can develop from your adrenal glands making too much cortisol or from taking medications such as prednisone over a long period.

Congenital adrenal hyperplasia. This inherited condition is characterized by abnormal production of steroid hormones, including cortisol and androgen, by your adrenal glands.

Tumors. Rarely, an androgen-secreting tumor in the ovaries or adrenal glands can cause hirsutism.

Medications. Some medications can cause hirsutism. These include minoxidil (Minoxidil, Rogaine); danazol, which is used to treat women with endometriosis; testosterone (Androgel, Testim); and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). If your partner uses topical products containing androgens, you can be affected as well, through skin-to-skin contact.

Types of Electrolysis

Medical electrolysis devices can destroy the hair growth cells with chemical energy, heat energy, or both. The method chosen by the electrologist is the modality. All are effective. There are three modalities in current use:

Galvanic electrolysis is a chemical process. The current produces a chemical reaction in the hair follicle eliminating the hair growth cells.

Thermolysis (also called short-wave) produces heat. This modality heats and destroys the hair growth cells in the follicle. A higher intensity current can be applied for less time in the follicle, or current can be used at lower intensity with longer timing.

The Blend method combines galvanic current with thermolysis current. Thermolysis heats up the chemical reaction in the follicle destroying hair growth cells.

The most commonly treated areas for women are:
Chin – Jawline – Upper lip – Throat – Sides of face – Eyebrows – Chest – Abdomen – Breasts – Bikini lines – Underarms – Hairline – Fingers and toes

Electrolysis Sessions

As with most hair removal treatments, electrolysis requires multiple sessions to permanently remove all hair in the treatment area. You will need several appointments because hair grows in different stages. This means that the hair that is treated at the first appointment may not be all of the hair in the treatment area. Typically, you will need to schedule an appointment every other week to achieve optimal results. Treatment will last approximately fifteen min to an hour depending on size of the treatment area.

Every session is brought to you by a highly trained and experienced Electrologist. Our level of care is part of what makes the electrolysis treatment comfortable.

Laser vs Electrolysis

Both Laser and Electrolysis are great permanent hair removal methods. They both produce long lasting effects especially when compared to shaving, waxing or other temporary methods of hair removal. Laser and Electrolysis are both excellent options to achieve permanent hair removal. However, unlike laser, electrolysis is for every client. Electrolysis can treat any hair color and skin type.

  • With Laser hair removal a high-heat laser focuses on the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding skin. Lasers work by focusing on contrast and has made dark hair with light skin hair free because of this focus on contrast.
  • Electrolysis destroys the hair follicles by inserting a probe to apply concentrated heat to the hair follicles. This hair removal process is more focused on each individual hair. Because of the individual focus, electrolysis works for a variety of hair colors and types. Electrolysis only focuses on the hair and not the contrast of color.

Both methods require multiple treatment sessions. However, the benefit of hair removal is far greater than the multiple sessions. Our clients can enjoy a life without constant worry about ingrown hairs, shaving, waxing or hair growth. With any of our permanent hair treatments, you will experience smooth, hair free skin. Most importantly, you will be ready for any event any time. You won’t need to worry about shaving first, razor burn or letting your hair grow out enough for waxing. The benefits are endless and that is what we can give to our clients.
